A Gaither Homecoming Miles From Home
The Gaither Vocal Band: that legendary group whose first album was recorded on a cassette tape (that was a long time ago!). Yet, their music has not lost a beat of its inspiration. The harmonies of this male quintet are so tight, you can barely unweave their individual voices. Over the years, the band has had a variety of incredibly talented men in the group, but always led by Mr. Bill Gaither himself. On this particular cruise, the band was made up of (from left to right) Michael English, Wes Hampton, Mark Lowry, David Phelps and Bill Gaither. And although those singers changed over time, one thing remains consistent: their desire to bring meaningful music to a hurting world.
Sailing the Alaskan waters, we passed floating ice and verdant forests. Cruising the Hubbard Glacier in Disenchantment Bay was a spectacular sight, and we found that the beauty of the Gaither Homecoming voices found a perfect backdrop in the unforgettable scenes that slowly passed our ship in a panoramic of God's best creation. Blue sky, blue sea, blue mountains - you can't paint this stuff. What a gift to live inside God's art. And as I take in all the sights, I'm also taking in the music as the band reminds me that we're waiting to go, "Home...loved ones there to welcome me; but His sweet face will be the first I see, when my journey's over, I am going home."
