Faith, Family & Adventure: Levi & Jennie Lusko on Travel That Transforms
Ever wonder what it’s like to travel the world with Levi and Jennie Lusko? This behind-the-scenes interview reveals their favorite destinations and life-shaping memories abroad.
From hilarious travel mishaps to sacred encounters in Israel and Greece, the Luskos open their hearts and share how travel fuels their creativity, strengthens their ministry and draws them closer to God. Consider this your backstage pass to their most memorable journeys!
Where should Christian travelers go and why?
- Israel is where Scripture comes alive! It’s been said that one trip to Israel is like one year of Bible college.
- Philippi, Ephesus and Rome are remarkable because parts of the Bible were written there or addressed to the early church in those locations.
- Go on a mission trip to anywhere! Missions changed our lives. Levi went to Romania at age 14 and Jennie went to Mexico at age 13. We were transformed by serving God in another country and culture.
It’s incredible to see what God is doing around the world. Serving others overseas changes our perspective and expands our vision of the world and His Kingdom.
What’s your top travel tip when exploring new places and looking for creative inspiration?
Inspiration is everywhere! For the believer, we have an enhanced view of life to see God’s creation and history. When we travel with a sense of curiosity and wonder, it changes everything, even the simplest trip, piece of art or landscape.
We love learning the stories behind a city, historical monument or design. It fuels what we do. We return home inspired to live creatively and exceptionally in whatever God has called us as a result of the places we’ve been! We are grateful travelers!
How does traveling impact your faith and worldview?

Traveling, faith and worldview are interconnected. Traveling and seeing the world builds up our faith and reminds us that God is at work. This impacts our everyday life because we remember that God is so much bigger than our neighborhood, city, state and even country.
The world is filled with beautiful cultures and people. It’s a stunning reminder that heaven is full of all tribes and nations and tongues; we will all be worshiping God together one day. The more we see, the more we grow in love and compassion. Our lives are forever changed!
Do you experience God uniquely in different places?
I believe God shows up where He’s wanted. He’s looking throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are loyal to Him (2 Chronicles 16:9). He can meet and reveal Himself to us wherever we are!
Israel is a special place where I’m sure God opens His children’s eyes even more to His love, His plan, His power, His peace. But anywhere we travel has the potential of becoming holy ground as we walk with Him daily!
How has interacting with Christian communities around the world enriched your faith?

It’s one of my favorite things to travel and see what God is doing in the Church worldwide. Every Christian church we have visited has been different, and yet beautifully similar. Wherever the Bible is taught and God is glorified, the Holy Spirit is working deeply in people.
Some churches may feel more vibrant than others, but every church culture is deeply unique and influences their community. Visiting churches strengthens my faith, and I’m honored to visit so many around the country and world.
What three things must you have to travel?
- Patagonia small roller bags
Our family has traveled the world with these bags and they are the best. - Merino wool clothing
These clothes are durable, don’t smell after multiple wears and are versatile so we can pack less. - Packing cubes
They are so helpful in staying organized and keeping everything compact.
What’s one of your favorite experiences of traveling with friends?
Traveling with Lisa Harper and her daughter, Missy, during our Wonder of Advent tour (which we plan to do again in the future). It was incredibly fun and wild to share a bus with the Harpers.
Witnessing all God was up to during the tour was special. Giving people the space to grieve the loss of loved ones or the death of dreams and relationships was powerful. Many attendees shared with us how it helped them grieve and then lean into the Christmas season more present and ready to enjoy it.
How does your faith influence your creativity?

Our faith influences our creativity in every single way. We love and serve THE Creator of all things. The One who designed the galaxies, hung the stars and built the world with His words.
The most creative One is our Father, so Christians should be the most creative humans who inspire creativity and excellence in others. There are so many ways to live this out. Everything we do, whether it’s difficult or mundane, has eternal weight and significance to it. That’s how I want to live our lives!
Is there an audience interaction that stands out to you or has stuck with you through the years?
One of the most powerful and meaningful interactions was in Dallas, Texas. Levi had just finished preaching on God’s plan for sex and marriage, and a 70-year-old woman approached him in the book signing line. With tears in her eyes, she reached out and clasped his hands in hers and said, “If I had heard this message fifty years ago, it would have saved me fifty years of regret.” Levi looked directly at her, and said, “Ma’am, your life is not over. God can redeem the hard and difficult years.”
What inspires your songs, books or messages?

Life experience and the challenges God brings us through have inspired the books and the messages. Again, because inspiration is everywhere, there is much to learn from history, science, creation and everyday life, which directly relates to how God designed us to glorify Him.
There are illustrations and examples everywhere that point to who God is. We pray that our eyes and yours would be even more open to see the way He sees!
Can you recall a specific instance of feeling divinely inspired?
There have been many times while on a plane looking out the window, I (Jennie) have felt God’s presence in beautiful ways. Heaven is all around us at any moment. When I gaze at the floating clouds in the sky, I feel extra close to heaven, especially with our daughter there.
Where are your favorite places to be when writing or composing?
Levi can write anywhere and everywhere. He has written books and messages on planes, trains, cars, boats, hotel rooms, cabins, rocking chairs, bar stools, libraries, coffee shops, dining tables…everywhere. He loves writing with a view of nature, whether it’s a wooded forest or an ocean view. And always with coffee nearby.
Jennie is the opposite and gets motion sick easily. She tries to write and study everywhere, but tends to fall asleep on road trips and planes, and on rare occasions will write in the air. She loves coffee shops and studying in the early mornings at her dining room table.
What places are still on your travel bucket list?
- Calgary is only a five-hour drive away from us. We’ve never been and just need to make it happen!
- New Zealand is home to some of our favorite people, and it looks stunning!
- Spain is somewhere we’d love to explore.
What are the upcoming projects or destinations you are excited about?
We can’t wait to host our annual MVMNT (Movement) Conference in Whitefish, Montana, for youth and family groups. Along with our amazing team, we plan for others to travel to us and have four incredible days of an outdoor conference experience.
Our guest artists include guest music artists like Phil Wickham, Cain, Brandon Lake, Passion, Elevation Rhythm, Kari Jobe, and Cody Carnes, along with speakers like Christine Caine, Louie Giglio, Madi Prewett Troutt, Chad Veach, Robert Madu, Willie Robertson, and Lisa Harper.
If you lead youth in your church, or have youth in your family grades 6–12, this could be an incredible time for you and them, worshiping God and learning from Him with a mountain view as well as Montana adventuring during the day!
